In a recent report, L’Equipe offered an update on West Ham United and their pursuit of Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo this summer. It has been claimed that the Hammers have seen their €35m opening offer get turned down by the French club for the talented centre-half.
Todibo’s Impressive Run Of Form In French Football Last Season
Todibo enjoyed a solid season at Nice recently as he put in a series of impressive displays at the heart of their backline. The 24-year-old picked up three goals in 33 matches for the French outfit in the previous campaign across all competitions.
The French defender gave a good account of himself when defending inside his half as he averaged 1.9 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 3.1 clearances per 90 minutes in the Ligue 1. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back after completing 90.1% of his attempted passes in the French top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2027 which could make it difficult for the Hammers to get a deal done for him on the cheap in this transfer period.
What Should Be West Ham United Boss Julen Lopetegui’s Play With Regards To Todibo?
Todibo is a solid tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when required and excels at playing his way out from the defensive end of the field.
The French sensation can even use his strong 1.90m frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. However, he might need some time to adapt to the physical nature and high intensity of Premier League football if West Ham manage to get him on board this summer.
Todibo would bring more bite and steel to Julen Lopetegui’s defence and could help the Hammers compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. However, the East London club would be wise to go back in with an improved offer for the Frenchman in this transfer period.
At 24, Todibo has his peak years ahead of him which makes him a good choice for the Hammers to pursue ahead of the new campaign.
