According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are serious about adding Bayer Leverkusen defender Odilon Kossounou to their disposal. The Premier League club have even submitted an enquiry about the possible summer transfer of the player.
Odilon Kossounou was impressive last season
Odilon Kossounou joined Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2021 from Club Brugge. Since then, he has gone from strength to strength. He has emerged as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga league and a reliable name on the team sheet.
Kossounou played an instrumental role in his side’s success last season. He featured in 34 games and got one goal in his name. He averaged 1.2 tackles, 0.9 interceptions, and 1.5 clearances per game (stats via whoscored).
The defender mainly dons the role of a centre-back but can also play on the right full-back position. He is excellent at tackling and intercepting the threats. With accurate passing skills, he is a quality player who can adapt to different play styles.
Odilon Kossounou wants to play in the Premier League
As Joel Matip left Liverpool as a free agent, the management are eyeing to fill the spot with a like-to-like replacement. The club has been linked to multiple defenders over the past few months but they have failed to materialize any deal so far.
Hence, the Reds have intensified their efforts to sign Bayer Leverkusen‘s Odilon Kossounou. The player has been impressive over the past few seasons and has shown that he has all the qualities required to succeed in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old also wants to play in the English League as he hasn’t responded to the club’s renewal proposal. With two years left on his contract, the German outfit wouldn’t mind offloading him to raise funds. Reportedly, the defender will cost around €40/€45 million, which shouldn’t be an issue for the English giants.
