In a recent print edition, The Sun (21 July, Page 57) stated that Arsenal have launched their second bid for Wolverhampton Wanderers keeper Daniel Bentley. It has been claimed that the Gunners have made an offer in the region of £300,000 to bring the English custodian to North London this summer.
Bentley’s Important Role At The Molineux Stadium Last Season
Bentley played a sporadic role for Wolves in the previous campaign when he put in a couple of impressive displays for them in the Premier League. The 31-year-old featured in seven matches for the West Midlands club last season, conceding ten goals and earning three clean sheets in the process across all fronts.
The experienced goalkeeper did well to average 0.6 clearances and 4.6 long balls per game in the Premier League. However, he was a bit untidy with his ball distribution after completing 64.4% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Bentley’s current contract at the English club will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for the Gunners to sign him on the cheap this summer.
Will Bentley Be A Good Signing For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Bentley can be a safe pair of hands in between the sticks when he is playing with confidence on the field. He is a solid handler of the ball and can use his quick reflexes to make a few crucial saves at the back for his team.
Standing at 1.93m, the English talent is a dominant presence inside his penalty box. However, he has to find a way to improve his ball distribution from inside his half. Bentley already knows the Premier League well and won’t take much time to settle into life at the London club. We can expect him to enhance the quality of Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta’s goalkeeping department.
Bentley is good enough to serve as an ideal understudy to David Raya at the North London club in the short term. He might even help the Gunners to compete across all competitions in the coming years. All in all, Bentley would be a decent signing for Arsenal this summer. Therefore, Arteta should focus on going all out to bring him to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this transfer window.
