According to Fichajes, Liverpool have identified Real Sociedad midfielder Brais Mendez as a viable target for the summer transfer window. The Premier League club want to acquire his services to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season.
Brais Mendez is an experienced campaigner
After a long spell at Celta, Brais Mendez signed for Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022. Since then, he has been an integral part of the squad. He has been a key performer for them, grabbing the attention of many European clubs in the process.
Mendez had a decent campaign last season, where he turned up 44 times. He netted eight goals and provided nine assists in the process. He averaged 2.1 shots, 1.2 key passes, and 0.8 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Spanish plays as an attacking midfielder but can also operate on the right wing if needed. He is known for his creative work in the final third. With excellent passing technique and the ability to score from free-kicks, he contributes immensely to the attacking front.
A replacement of Thiago Alcantara?
Liverpool need a creative midfield who can fill Thiago Alcantara‘s spot in the side. The latter left the club as a free agent as he decided to retire from professional football. Hence, the club have turned their eyes towards Brais Mendez.
Mendez is a proven campaigner who can make an instant impact upon his arrival. His addition to the midfield unit will add much-needed depth and experience. Moreover, he is at the peak of his powers and has approximately 6-7 years at the highest level.
Should the Reds decide to sign the 27-year-old, they will have to pay around €50 million. The amount isn’t too big for the English giant but it remains to be seen if they wish to invest that much or not. As Liverpool have been silent in the transfer window so far, they should crack a few deals in the coming weeks.
