Teun Koopmeiners, who commenced his professional career at AZ, signed for Atalanta in the summer of 2021. Since then, he has taken huge strides and has managed to establish himself as a reliable name. He has been one of the best campaigners in the Serie A league over the past few seasons.
Koopmeiners played a crucial role in helping Atalanta lift the Europa League Cup this season. He featured in 51 games, netting 15 goals and providing seven assists. He averaged 1.6 shots, 1.6 key passes, and 0.6 dribbles per game (stats via whoscored).
The Dutch midfielder can play multiple roles in the middle of the park. He has great abilities on the ball and does well under pressure. His offensive attributes include finishing, shooting from long-range and converting set-pieces. The player’s leadership qualities are a bonus for the team.
Will Liverpool spend high on Teun Koopmeiners?
It’s evident that Liverpool are keen on signing a box-to-box midfielder who can improve the functioning of the system. New boss Arne Slot was interested in signing Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer but the player decided to join Brighton.
Hence, the club have turned their focus towards Teun Koopmeiners. The Reds had previously dropped the idea of running behind his signature but a lack of options has tempted them to activate the operations again.
The pursuit of Koopmeiners could be a decent move considering the experience and qualities he would bring. He can take up multiple roles and will add depth to the squad. The 26-year-old is currently in the peak years of his career and can serve 6-7 years at Anfield.
However, the Dutchman reportedly wants to stay in Italy and is expected to join Juventus. But the latter party isn’t willing to match Atalanta’s €60 million demand. Should Liverpool manage to convince the midfielder to join them, they can match the offer and lure away the player.
