In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona have agreed on a deal to land Los Angeles FC defender Mamadou Mbacke, who spent last season on loan at Barca Atletic, this summer. It is understood that the Catalan club are close to recruiting the Senegalese centre-back later this year.
Mbacke’s Impressive Loan Spell In Spain Last Season
Mbacke managed to catch the eye with his performances for Barca Atletic last season when he managed to put in a run of solid displays for them on the defensive end of the field. The 21-year-old found the back of the net a couple of times and earned one assist in 22 matches for them in the previous campaign.
The Senegalese defensive ace managed to prove his worth in the youth ranks of Spanish football but is still unproven at the highest level. Still, there is no denying that he is one of the best young centre-backs in African football.
His current contract at his parent club Los Angeles FC will run out at the end of 2024. Therefore, Barcelona could potentially sign him on the cheap later this summer.
Barcelona Agree On A Deal To Land Mbacke: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Mbacke can sense the danger well to secure the ball back for his team on the defensive end of the field. He is a good tackler of the ball and usually puts his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the offensive.
Standing at 1.89m, the Senegalese talent is a strong presence in the air as well. However, he is still quite raw and would need time to prove his worth in top-flight football. Still, there is no denying that Mbacke has the potential to be a world-class player in his position someday.
At 21, the Senegalese sensation is undeniably a prospect to watch out for in the future. Hence, Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick would be wise to go all out to bring him to the Nou Camp in this summer transfer window. However, the Catalan club need to be patient with Mbacke’s progress before he can unlock the best out of the Senegalese starlet.
