In a recent report, Sport stated that Aston Villa have joined the race to land Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix. It has been stated that the Villans could move in for the Portuguese attacker in this summer transfer window.
Felix’s Decent Loan Spell At Barcelona
Felix enjoyed a decent loan spell at Barcelona as he produced a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Portugal international found the back of the net ten times and earned six assists in 44 appearances for the Catalan outfit last season across all competitions.
The 24-year-old managed to prove his worth at times in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.0 shots, 0.6 key passes and 1.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even tidy when distributing the ball after making 83.7% of his attempted passes in the Spanish first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at his parent club Atletico Madrid will expire in the summer of 2029. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Villans to get a cut-price deal done for him in this transfer window.
Aston Villa Have Joined The Race For Felix: Is He Worth The Fight?
Felix can engineer some space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He can be a good finisher on the offensive third of the pitch when he is playing well on the field. The Portuguese talent has even got the eye to play a few decisive passes in the final third. However, he has to find a way to be more consistent in front of the opponent’s goal.
Felix mainly operates as a striker but can also function as a left-sided wide player if asked to do so by his manager. We can expect him to enhance the quality of Aston Villa head coach Unai Emery’s first team.
Felix has what it takes to help the Villans compete across all fronts in the coming seasons. Therefore, he would be well worth the fight, so Emery would be wise to step up his efforts to bring the Portugal international to Villa Park this summer.
