In a recent report, Calcio Lecce stated that Arsenal are locked in a three-way battle for Lecce defender Patrick Dorgu this summer. It has been claimed that the Gunners would have to rival Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur in the race to land the Danish left-back this summer.
Dorgu’s Impressive Rise In Italian Football
Dorgu managed to put in a few eye-catching displays on the left side of Lecce’s backline in the previous campaign. The 19-year-old participated in 34 matches for the Italian club last season, netting a couple of goals and grabbing one assist on all fronts.
The talented teenager proved his worth at times on the left flank and did well to average 1.3 tackles, 1.2 clearances, 0.6 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.5 dribbles per game in Serie A football. He was even tidy when distributing the ball after making 83.9% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Italian club will expire in the summer of 2027. Hence, the Gunners could struggle to land him on the cheap later this year.
Arsenal Are Locked In A Three-Way Battle For Dorgu: Is He A Prospect For The Future?
Dorgu is a good tackler of the ball and doesn’t mind clearing the danger when the opposition are on the offensive. He can shoot the ball well from long range and has got the eye to create the odd chance for his teammates from the wide areas. The Danish sensation is a decent dribbler with the ball as well. He is primarily a left-back but can also operate as a left-sided wide player if told to do so.
At 19, Dorgu has the potential to be a future star at the highest level. He is undoubtedly a prospect to watch out for in the long run, so Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta would be wise to bring him to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Dorgu is already good enough to enhance the quality of the North London club‘s match-day squad. He might even help the Gunners challenge for some major silverware over the next decade. Therefore, Arteta should focus on going all out to get a deal done for Dorgu this off-season.
