In a recent tweet, Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale claimed that West Ham United are among the clubs hoping to sign Sassuolo winger Armand Lauriente this summer. It has been mentioned that the Hammers would have to rival Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus and other Serie A clubs in pursuit of the French wide player.
Lauriente’s Impressive Form In Serie A This Season
Lauriente is having a decent campaign at Sassuolo as he has put in a string of impressive displays for them on the offensive end of the field. The 25-year-old has scored five goals and grabbed five assists in 34 matches for the Italian club in league football.
The French talent has been a consistent performer out on the flanks based on his average of 2.4 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A. He has even been accurate when distributing possession in the final third after completing 78.3% of his attempted passes in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Lauriente is under contract at the Italian club until the summer of 2027. Therefore, West Ham would have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about signing the French wing wizard later this year.
Should West Ham United Go For Lauriente This Summer?
Lauriente has got the vision to create some clear-cut chances for his teammates in the final third and can strike the ball with power and precision from long range. He can even make a few dangerous runs with the ball out in the wide areas.
The French sensation mainly operates as a left-winger but can also function as a right-sided wide player if asked to do so. He would inject more quality into West Ham‘s attack. He might even help the Hammers compete across all fronts in the future.
At 25, the best is yet to come from Lauriente. Hence, it makes sense for the East London club to go for someone with his skillset this summer. However, there are some concerns over whether Lauriente can cope with the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football. Still, West Ham should think about trying to get a deal done for him before the start of the new campaign.
