In a recent report, journalist Wayne Veysey provided an update on the future of Everton centre-forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin. It has been claimed that the Toffees are demanding £60m for their prized asset this summer.
Calvert-Lewin’s Recent Season In The Premier League
Calvert-Lewin has endured a tough campaign at Goodison Park but deserves some credit for putting in a handful of impressive displays as the focal point of Everton’s attack. The English striker has banged in eight goals and secured three assists in 38 appearances for the Toffees this season across various competitions.
The 27-year-old has led the line well at times for Everton up top as he is averaging 2.3 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.4 dribbles per game in Premier League football. However, he has lacked quality when interchanging possession with his teammates deep inside the opponent’s half after completing just 56.9% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Merseyside club will run out at the end of next season. Thus, Everton would have no choice but to cash in on him as they simply cannot afford to lose Calvert-Lewin on a free transfer in 2025.
Should Everton Cut Calvert-Lewin Loose This Summer?
Calvert-Lewin can strike the ball with venom and precision from long range and can create the odd chance for his teammates in and around the opponent’s penalty area when he is playing well on the field. However, he has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy if he wants to remain a regular starter in top-flight football.
At the moment, Everton might be better off cutting Calvert-Lewin loose this summer as he has struggled to be consistent for them in the Premier League over the past few years. The Toffees should rather look to cash in on him this summer and use the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement in the upcoming transfer period.
At 27, Calvert-Lewin has his peak years ahead of him. However, frequent injuries have often derailed his progress at Goodison Park. With all things considered, the Merseyside club should focus on selling the English striker if they receive a favourable offer this summer.
