In a recent report, journalist Pete O’Rourke stated that Manchester United are keen on recruiting Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are eager to sign the English centre-back in the early stages of the summer transfer window.
Branthwaite’s Impressive Form At Goodison Park
Branthwaite is having a solid campaign at the Merseyside club after producing a series of impressive performances at the centre of their defence. The English talent has scored two goals in 36 appearances for the Toffees this season in various competitions.
The 21-year-old has been a solid presence on the defensive end of the field based on his average of 1.9 tackles, 1.6 interceptions and 4.4 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been tidy when distributing possession from inside his half after making 79.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Goodison Park will run out in the summer of 2027. Hence, Man United would have to make a big offer if they want to stand a chance of recruiting Branthwaite later this year.
Is Branthwaite A Good Fit For Manchester United?
Branthwaite is a solid tackler of the ball and usually clears his lines when at risk of being caught out at the back. He can scan the danger well to make a few timely interceptions for his team inside his half. Standing at 1.95m, the English defensive ace can be a dominant presence in the air as well. He even excels at playing his way out from the back.
Branthwaite would inject a lot of bite and steel into Man United‘s backline. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at Old Trafford next season. At 21, the future looks quite promising for the Everton youngster as long as he continues to improve with each season. The Carlisle-born talent has got some Premier League experience under his belt and won’t take much time to settle into life at the Theatre of Dreams.
Branthwaite is also good enough to help the Red Devils challenge for some major honours over the next decade. Therefore, he would be an excellent fit for Man United‘s needs in the long run.
