According to recent reports from Italian media, West Ham United defender Konstantinos Mavropanos is on the radar of Napoli. It has been revealed that the Italian club are showing interest in recruiting the Greek centre-back from the Hammers this summer.
Mavropanos’ Impressive Form At The London Stadium This Season
Mavropanos is having a decent campaign at the East London club after he put in a series of dominant performances at the heart of David Moyes’ defence. The Greek talent has participated in 23 matches for West Ham this season, scoring one goal on all fronts. He has done all this for a side, that by all betting odds analysis were not supposed to do well this season after the hangover of winning the Europa Conference League last season.
The 26-year-old has been a rock at the back as he has averaged 1.6 tackles, 1.4 interceptions and 4.6 clearances per game in the Premier League. He has even been accurate when distributing the ball from inside his half after making 76.6% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
Mavropanos is under contract at the London Stadium until the summer of 2028. Therefore, Moyes is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him in the upcoming summer transfer window.
Can West Ham United Boss David Moyes Afford To Lose Mavropanos?
Mavropanos is a tough-tackling defender who can scan the danger well to secure the ball back for his side on the defensive end of the field. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and excels at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.94m, the Greek defensive ace can use his towering frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. At the moment, he is one of the most important players in David Moyes’ squad. Hence, West Ham simply cannot afford to lose Mavropanos in the summer transfer period.
At 26, Mavropanos has his peak years ahead of him. Thus, it makes sense for the Hammers to keep hold of the Greek defender for the long run as they cannot afford to lose someone of his quality later this year. However, Moyes would find it difficult to hang on to the player if he receives an astronomical offer from a top club for him this summer. Still, the first option for the East London club should be to retain Mavropanos’ services as he could help them compete for European football in the coming seasons.
