Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella has been offered to Real Madrid, according to a report published in Defensa Central. The Blues want to offload him in the summer but it remains to be seen if the Whites are willing to buy him or not.
Marc Cucurella is an experienced campaigner
Raising through the ranks in Spain, Marc Cucurella signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2022 for a reported fee of £55 million. He started strong at his new home but has fallen in the pack in recent months. Hence, the Blues are looking to raise funds by offloading him in the summer.
The 25-year-old has managed to feature in only 14 games this season, netting once. He is averaging 3.6 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.4 clearances per game. Though his defensive work has been fine, he has barely contributed in the offensive aspects (stats via whoscored).
Cucurella is known for his tackling and blocking the ball in front of the goal. He is also comfortable on the ball and has a good passing accuracy rate. However, the left-back isn’t good enough when it comes to creating goal-scoring chances.
Real Madrid have no room for Marc Cucurella
Real Madrid are unlikely to buy Marc Cucurella despite Chelsea’s direct offer. The Spanish club already have Ferland Mendy and Fran Garcia in their ranks. They are also aggressively pushing for the signature of Bayern Munich left-back Alphonso Davies.
Apart from Davies, Miguel Gutierrez is also likely to arrive in the summer. Hence, the Spanish club will have plenty of options to pick from for the concerned spot. In all cases, they will keep only two options and sell the rest to keep a balance in the squad.
That’s the reason why the Whites haven’t offered a new deal to Mendy, whose contract runs out within the next 12 months. Davies will reasonably become the first-choice left-back if he arrives.
