Real Madrid are all set to re-sign Girona left-back Miguel Gutierrez in the summer transfer window, according to Spanish outlet Cadena SER. The club wants to bolster their defensive line for next season with the acquisition of their former player.
The Whites can get the Spanish defender for just €8 million due to a buy-back clause in the player’s contract with Girona. However, Bayern Munich are highly interested in signing the youngster and might give tough competition to the Spanish club.
Miguel Gutierrez has proven himself in La Liga
Miguel Gutierrez came through the ranks of Getafe academy before joining Real Madrid. He went on to make his senior team debut but didn’t get many opportunities. He made a move to another La Liga side Girona in 2022 in search of game time.
The decision turned out to be fruitful as the 22-year-old went on to become an integral part of the side. He has been instrumental in Girona’s title fight this season. He has featured in 28 games this season so far, netting a goal and providing four assists.
Gutierrez has a high passing accuracy rate of 88.2%. He likes to play short passes and is a master of providing pinpoint crosses and key passes. However, he needs to work on his tackling technique and try to contribute more defensively (stats via whoscored).
Real Madrid’s strategic move
Real Madrid running behind Miguel Gutierrez seems a bit unrealistic as they are already making moves for Alphonso Davies. With the arrival of Davies, they will have three left-backs including Fran Garcia and Ferland Mendy. So they should make a couple of sales to make way for Gutierrez.
Bayern Munich’s interest in Gutierrez could benefit the Whites in their pursuit of Davies. They can use the former player as a tool to negotiate and bring down the cost of the deal. The Spanish left-back will be an ideal replacement for Davies for the German side.
