In a move to bolster their squad, Newcastle United have identified Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis as a potential target in the summer transfer window, according to talkSPORT. The club sees him as an ideal fit into the squad and a valuable addition.
It could turn out to be a great signing as the player won’t cost more than £10m. However, the Magpies will face competition from English counterpart West Ham United, who have also shown interest in the acquisition of the player.
Leif Davis has an attacking mindset
Leif Davis came through the ranks of Leeds United academy and earned a spot in the senior team. After a few years, he was loaned to AFC Bournemouth in 2021. Following that season, Ipswich Town managed to lure away the defender for just £1.2 million.
The English defender has featured in 33 games this season so far, netting zero goals but assisting 10. He is averaging 1.8 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, and 1 clearances per game. On the offensive front, he has an average of 2.9 key passes along with an almost 80% successful passing rate (stats via whoscored).
Davis mainly plays at the left-back position but is also comfortable as a centre-back. He is termed as a ‘modern-day attacking back’ due to his ability to provide good crosses and assists. He has all the equipment that one would want from their left-back.
Leif Davis can be a good signing
Newcastle United want to strengthen their defensive line with the recruitment of Leif Davis in the summer. Considering the low acquisition cost, it won’t be a bad deal at all. The player was born and raised in North East, which would add to their favour only.
Davis would be open to moving into the Premier League to lift his career. However, it will also depend upon the fact if Ipswich Town manage to get the promotion or not. They are ranked second in the Championship points table with 75 points.
