In a recent report, The Independent revealed that Manchester United have identified Napoli centre-forward Victor Osimhen as a target. It has been claimed that the Red Devils are eyeing a move to secure the services of the Nigerian striker but are facing tough competition from Chelsea in pursuit of him this summer.
Osimhen’s Impressive Record In Serie A This Season
Osimhen is enjoying a decent campaign at the Italian club after he put in a series of impressive displays as the focal point of their attack. The 25-year-old has banged in 13 goals and earned four assists in 22 matches for the Naples outfit this season across all competitions.
The Nigeria international has led the line well and deserves some credit for averaging 3.2 shots and 0.7 key passes per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has been a bit sloppy with his ball distribution in the final third based on his pass completion rate of 70.1% in the Italian top tier (stats via whoscored).
Osimhen’s current deal at Napoli will run out in the summer of 2026 which would make it difficult for Man United to snap him up on the cheap later this year.
Is Osimhen A Dream Choice For Manchester United Boss Erik Ten Hag?
Osimhen can use his strong 1.86m frame to make some clever turns inside the opponent’s penalty box and has proven his worth as a reliable finisher in front of the opponent’s half. The Nigerian talent can even create the odd chance for others around him on the attacking end of the field. However, he needs to figure out a way to improve his link-up play up top.
Osimhen would no doubt inject a lot of quality into Man United‘s attack. He is good enough to earn a regular first-team spot at the Mancunian club over the next few years. Therefore, he would be a dream choice for the Red Devils to consider in the summer transfer period.
At 25, Osimhen has got a bright future ahead of him and could be a great acquisition for the Mancunian outfit at the end of this season. However, it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his good form in Premier League football.
