Premier League side Manchester United are interested in signing Barcelona defender Mikayil Faye in the summer transfer window, according to Fichajes. The club believe the player can be nourished into a world-class defender in a few years.
However, Barcelona might not entertain any offer when it’s a lucrative deal financially. A couple of major clubs including Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on the youngster.
Mikayil Faye has impressed everyone
Mikayil Faye grew up at Diambars FC Academy in Senegal before moving to NK Kustosija. He was eventually lured away by Barcelona last summer and currently plays for Barcelona Atletic. His impressive performance has earned him a spot in the starting lineup.
The 19-year-old has featured in 24 games this season so far and has scored thrice. He plays at the centre-back position and is a complete package. He is a physically tough defender and has good passing and clearance abilities.
Faye’s technical understanding of the game makes him a great talent. With proper guidance and plenty of game time, he can emerge as a reliable player. Hence, many clubs are keen on getting his signature to get the dividends later on.
Will Manchester United spend £25 million?
Manchester United aren’t having a decent season and have suffered in the defensive section. They need to strengthen their backline and bring in an alternative to Jonny Evans in the summer. That’s where Mikayil Faye can fit in well and serve the club for a long time.
However, the signing won’t be a piece of cake. The Senegal defender will demand game-time assurance in order to move to Old Trafford. Barcelona, on the other hand, might not entertain any offer for the wonder kid as they had rejected RC Lens’ approach in winter.
Only a lucrative money deal would change the Spanish club’s mind due to financial strains. Reportedly, anything around £25 million will make it work for the English club.
