In a recent report, The Daily Mirror mentioned that Everton are showing interest in Hull City defender Jacob Greaves. It has been revealed that the Toffees are monitoring the progress of the English centre-back but could face competition in the form of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in pursuit of him.
Greaves’ Impressive Form In The EFL Championship This Season
The 23-year-old is having a decent campaign at the English club as he has managed to put in a series of impressive displays at the heart of their defence. Greaves has scored two goals and grabbed four assists in 35 matches for Hull this season across various competitions.
The English talent has been a decent performer inside his half based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 4.5 clearances per 90 minutes in the EFL Championship. He has even been tidy with his ball distribution as he has completed 89.2% of his attempted passes in the second tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the English club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, Everton would have to make a convincing offer if they want to recruit Greaves at the end of this campaign.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Move In For Greaves?
Greaves loves a tackle and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear his lines when the opposition are on the offensive and can use his robust 1.93m frame to win his fair share of 50-50 aerial duels. Greaves mainly plays as a central defender but can also fill in as a left-back if asked to do so by his manager.
However, it remains to be seen whether the English sensation can perform at a high level in Premier League football. Still, there is no doubt that Greaves would be a shrewd acquisition for the Toffees as they look to improve their squad this summer.
The Hull City ace would add more bite and steel to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s defence. Plus, he might help the Merseyside club compete across all fronts in the coming years. Thus, the Toffees would be wise to move in for Greaves in the summer transfer period.
