In a recent interview with Goal France, West Ham United winger Said Benrahma revealed that he is enjoying his loan spell with Olympique Lyonnais in France. Benrahma said,
“I couldn’t have got off to a better start. I played about 60 minutes and I’m really happy. I wanted to be out there, wanted to play. With three wins in three games, we need to keep the momentum going. I felt good, even though I still don’t know the team very well, but I’m happy.
“I’m getting to know my teammates and I think there will be good things to come. I think we deserved the win, because we had chances and we controlled the ball.”
Benrahma’s Struggles At West Ham This Season
Benrahma has struggled to perform at a high level for West Ham this season which led to his loan move to Lyon last month. The Algerian talent has made 22 appearances for the Hammers during this campaign but has failed to score a goal across various competitions. However, he has got an assist to his name.
The talented wide player saw most of his game time come off the bench but did well to average 1.5 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.1 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He even distributed possession relatively well after completing 79.8% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
Does Benrahma Have A Future At West Ham United?
Benrahma is a good dribbler with the ball and can create some decent openings for his teammates in the final third. However, he has to find a way to be more clinical in front of the opponent’s goal.
The Algeria international mainly plays as a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as an attacking midfielder if told to do so. On his day, Benrahma can be a real game-changer but those days have been few and far between for him at the London Stadium this season.
Thus, it seems like Benrahma is living on borrowed time at West Ham, so Moyes might be inclined to cash in on him when he returns from his loan spell at the end of this campaign.
