In a recent report, Defensa Central mentioned that Real Madrid are eyeing a move for Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt. It has been stated that Los Blancos are eager to secure the services of the Dutch centre-back in the summer.
De Ligt’s Impressive Form At San Siro
De Ligt has enjoyed a good run of form at the German club during this campaign after producing a series of solid displays for them on the defensive end of the pitch. The 24-year-old has been involved in 17 matches for Bayern Munich this season, netting two goals across all competitions.
The Dutch talent has been a decent performer when defending inside his half as he is averaging 0.6 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.5 clearances per 90 minutes in Bundesliga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the back based on his pass success rate of 93.7% in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
De Ligt is under contract at the Bavarian club until the summer of 2027 which could make it tough for Real Madrid to sign him on a cut-price deal later this year.
Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Get De Ligt On Board?
De Ligt is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure the ball back for his side inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to clear the danger when the opposition are on the offensive and is even proficient at playing his way out from the back.
Standing at 1.89m, de Ligt can use his strong frame to win his fair share of aerial duels. We can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Madrid club in the coming years.
At 24, the best is yet to come from de Ligt, so Los Blancos would be wise to try everything they can to get him on board at the end of this season. He would address some of Real Madrid‘s defensive concerns and could help Ancelotti’s team compete for some major trophies in the future. However, it remains to be seen whether the Dutch sensation can make a smooth transition to life in Spain.
