According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Mykhailo Mudryk intended to play for Arsenal last year, but is now focusing solely on Chelsea. After much speculation, Mudryk finally joined Chelsea in January 2023, despite the fact that many people expected him to join Arsenal. Some speculated that the 23-year-old was disappointed when the deal with Arsenal fell through, but Romano claims Mudryk was delighted to join Chelsea instead.
Fabrizio Romano on Mykhailo Mudryk
Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Mykhailo Mudryk wanted to move to Arsenal a bit more than a year ago. Romano also said that Mudryk wasn’t pushed into joining Stamford Bridge. Speaking only to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, Romano said that while Mudryk did want to go to Arsenal, he doesn’t believe all the wild stories about him that have been popping up recently.
Some reports said Mudryk cried on the phone when the deal with Arsenal didn’t happen, but Romano says he was happy to join Chelsea. Now, Mudryk is only thinking about Chelsea and there doesn’t seem to be anything set up for him to leave this summer.
“There have been some reports circulating that stated Mykhailo Mudryk was really disappointed not to get a move to Arsenal just over a year ago, but I think it’s important to remember that he was never forced to sign anything, so he accepted that as Chelsea were happy to have him, and also were the only ones to agree on fee with Shakhtar Donetsk,” Romano said.
“Of course, Mudryk wanted the Arsenal move, it was already public how much he wanted that move at the time, but now he is fully focused on Chelsea and I’m not aware of any plans for the summer either,” he added.

Mudryk, who is an Ukraine international, has had a tough time at Stamford Bridge. He hasn’t been able to do much when he’s had the chance to play. But last night, he was in the starting team and scored in Chelsea’s 3-2 win against Leeds United. Now, he hopes his performance showed Mauricio Pochettino he deserves more chances to play regularly.
