Eden Hazard, the former Real Madrid winger, reflected on his seven seasons at Chelsea. He retired from football last year, aged 32. He recently told the story of how he became a member of Chelsea.
Eden Hazard on joining Chelsea
Hazard became really famous when he played for Lille in Europe. He was so good that he won their Player of the Year award two times in a row. Then, in 2012, he decided to leave Lille. At that time, Chelsea didn’t finish at the top of the league, but they won the FA Cup and their first Champions League title. Didier Drogba, who scored a crucial goal and penalty in the final against Bayern Munich, played a big part in convincing Hazard to join Chelsea. So, Chelsea fans can be grateful to Drogba for Hazard joining the team.
Hazard recently revealed on the John Obi Mikel how he joined Chelsea.
“I met Roman Abramovich in the south of France, Michael Emenalo was there and he spoke French to me for Roman, he wanted to give me the keys already to the team, I was like what? Ok, I spoke to my agent and I was like let’s go Chelsea, this is my club,” he said.

In 2012, Hazard joined Chelsea for £32 million ($40.3m) and became a very important player for the team. He helped Chelsea win two Premier League titles, two Europa League trophies, an FA Cup, and a League Cup. During his time at Chelsea, he contributed to 202 goals in 352 matches. Because of his success, Real Madrid signed him in 2019. Unfortunately, injuries affected his time at Real Madrid, and his club career ended disappointingly.
Hazard retired from his national team in December 2022 and then decided to retire from all football in October 2023. Since retiring, he has given some honest interviews, and it’s probable that he will be seen in some role related to football again soon.
