In a recent report on Twitch, journalist Gerard Romero mentioned that Barcelona have set their sights on AC Milan winger Rafael Leao. It has been mentioned that the Catalan club are eyeing a move for the Portuguese wide player as they look to bolster their attack this summer.
Leao’s Impressive Numbers In Serie A
Leao has enjoyed a fruitful campaign at the Italian club after he put in a series of impressive displays on the left side of their attack. The 24-year-old has banged in six goals and grabbed nine assists in 28 appearances for AC Milan this season across all fronts.
The Portuguese wing wizard has been a consistent performer in the attacking end of the field as he is averaging 2.0 shots, 1.8 key passes and 2.0 dribbles per 90 minutes in Serie A football. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from the wide areas based on his pass success rate of 78.7% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Leao’s current deal at San Siro will run out in the summer of 2028 which would make it tough for Barca to arrange a cut-price move for him at the end of this campaign.
Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Bring Leao On Board?
Leao has got the pace to cause a lot of headaches for his marker out in the wide areas. He can make a few driving runs with the ball and can strike the ball with power from long range.
The Portugal international has also got the vision to create some meaningful openings for others around him in the final third. He mainly functions as a left-sided wide player but can also fill in as a centre-forward if needed.
We can expect Leao to bring more pace and firepower to Barcelona head coach Xavi’s frontline if he can figure out a way to get a deal done for the talented winger in the summer. However, Barca might struggle to fund a move for Leao who is still under a long-term contract at AC Milan.
At 24, Leao has his best years ahead of him which makes him an excellent choice for Barcelona to consider in the summer transfer period as he could help the Catalan club compete for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
