In a recent edition of the Inside Track podcast, former Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Everton scout Bryan King mentioned that West Ham United are eyeing a move for Bayer 04 Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong. It is believed that the Hammers have identified the Dutch defender as a target for this winter transfer window.
Frimpong’s Impressive Run Of Form In The Bundesliga
Frimpong has enjoyed a great campaign at the German club as he has been responsible for putting in a series of impressive displays on the right side of their defence. The 23-year-old has featured in 23 matches for Leverkusen this season, finding the back of the net on seven occasions and earning ten assists across all competitions.
The Dutch sensation has been a consistent performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 1.6 shots, 1.9 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the Bundesliga. He has even taken care of the ball when distributing possession from the right flank after making 79.9% of his attempted passes in the German top tier (stats via whoscored).
Frimpong is under contract at the German club until the summer of 2028. Thus, the Hammers will have to launch a convincing offer if they are serious about recruiting him this winter.
Is Frimpong A Decent Option For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Frimpong can engineer some space for himself to get some shots in at goal. He can strike the ball with venom and accuracy from long range and has also got the vision to create some meaningful openings for his teammates up top.
The Dutch talent can also make some driving runs with the ball on the right flank. However, only time will tell whether he can make a smooth transition to life in England.
Frimpong mainly operates as a right-back but can also play as a right-winger if asked to do so. We can expect him to add more quality to West Ham United head coach David Moyes’ squad.
At 23, Frimpong will only get better with each year which makes him a great option for the Hammers to pursue in this January transfer window. He would help the East London club challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. Therefore, Moyes should focus on moving in for the Dutch sensation before the end of this month.
