Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to focus on getting a new goal scorer in January. They’re really interested in signing Ivan Toney from Brentford. He’s 27 and is finishing an eight-month ban for breaking football betting rules. Toney is set to come back to playing on January 17. Arsenal cannot afford to replicate the performance that resulted in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Fulham if it is to compete for the Premier League crown, according Arteta and because of this they need a reliable striker.
Ivan Toney to Arsenal?
Mikel Arteta wants Arsenal to get Ivan Toney in January. He thinks Toney can help them win the Premier League. The Independent says Arteta really likes the idea of adding Toney to the team for a stronger attack. But, Arsenal knows Brentford wants £80 million for him. Arsenal is also almost at their spending limit and might have to sell players to get the money.
The news says Eddie Nketiah might be sold because Crystal Palace is interested. Brentford director Lee Dykes talked about Chelsea and Arsenal being interested in Toney. He said they’d consider selling only if the price is good. He shared this on the club’s website.
“I am so excited for Ivan to come back because I see him out there in training and he is some player; it looks like he’s never been away. There’s a real ambition from him and I can see in his eyes that he’s going to be better than he’s ever been; I really believe that will be the case. Yes, there will be lots of interest in Ivan in January. Naturally, there should be,” he said.
“He was the third-highest Premier League goalscorer last season – one of them [Harry Kane] has gone to Germany now, so he’s up there as one of the best strikers in the division. He is in the top five in the world, in my opinion. So there should be interest, and maybe the time comes very shortly that Ivan moves on to another club. But they will have to pay a decent transfer fee to acquire his services because he is some talent,” he added.
Ivan Toney is still not playing because he got in trouble for betting. He’ll be back in a little more than two weeks, around the middle of January, when the ban finishes.
