Alfie Gilchrist was born on November 28, 2003, and has been a member of Chelsea since 2014. He began when he was under 11 years old and has since played for a variety of young teams, including under-18 and development squads. The 20-year-old got his first professional start against Preston, and he also impressed as a substitute against Crystal Palace in December. Fans are certain he is a true Chelsea fan, and in an interview, Gilchrist expressed his affection for the team.
Alfie Gilchrist on his Chelsea career
Alfie Gilchrist was meant to be a Chelsea star from the start. His dad made him as a character in Football Manager even before he was born.
Gilchrist, who is 20 years old, is the newest Cobham player to join Chelsea’s main team. He has played in six games since his first match against Crystal Palace in December. Fans are happy and are calling him the new John Terry. But being part of the Stamford Bridge team has always been a part of his family history.
Gilchrist’s dad and grandad used to have tickets to watch Chelsea every season. Because of this, he grew up watching Chelsea games before he joined their training school in 2014. Now, ten years later, Gilchrist is a well-known part of Mauricio Pochettino’s team. His dad foresaw his future success in the Chelsea first team, even predicting it on Football Manager.
Gilchrist’s dad really liked Football Manager. Even before the new Chelsea player was born, his dad had already made him as a character in the game’s virtual world.
“My grandad and my dad used to have season tickets. They used to go all the time and my aunty used to go with them as well sometimes. So I obviously support Chelsea as well. I remember watching the Champions League final — the first time we won it — in my uncle’s living room. That was a good memory,” Gilchrist said.
“Actually my dad had a Football Manager game, or whatever it was called back then, and before I was even born, he made a player called ‘Alfie Gilchrist’ who played for Chelsea. He had chosen the name and everything, and he played with that character — as me — at Chelsea. So it’s crazy how it’s come to life,” he added.
