In a recent report, Tuttosport revealed that West Ham United defender Thilo Kehrer is on the radar of AC Milan. It has been stated that the Italian club are hoping to sign the German centre-back from the Hammers in the upcoming January transfer window.
Kehrer’s Limited Role At The London Stadium This Season
Kehrer has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at the East London club this season. The 27-year-old has featured in 12 matches for West Ham during this campaign across all competitions.
The German talent has made all of his appearances off the bench which could be why he is only averaging 0.3 tackles per 90 minutes in the Premier League (stats via whoscored).
At the moment, Kehrer is not enjoying his football at the London Stadium and could welcome a change of scenery in search of more playing time over the next few years.
Should West Ham United Boss David Moyes Cash In On Kehrer?
Kehrer is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger well to earn the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot. However, the German defensive ace has to find a way to earn more playing minutes in top-flight football.
Standing at 1.86m, Kehrer can be a dominant presence in the air. He can also play his way out from the back when he is playing regularly and with confidence on the pitch. The West Ham ace is primarily a central defender but can also operate as a right-back or as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so by his manager. However, there is no denying that Kehrer has fallen behind Kurt Zouma, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Nayef Aguerd and Angelo Ogbonna in David Moyes’ pecking order.
At 27, the German sensation is about to enter the peak stage of his playing career. Thus, it is only fair to the player if West Ham allow him to leave when the transfer window reopens at the start of next year. The Hammers would be wise to cash in on him this winter and use the money generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their match-day squad.
