In a recent report, Bolavip Brasil claimed that Newcastle United are the favorites to sign Santos forward Marcos Leonardo. It has been stated that the Magpies are leading the race to sign the Brazilian striker.

Leonardo’s Impressive Rise In The Brasileirao

Leonardo has come through the youth ranks of Santos and has managed to establish himself as a key member of their senior team. At the tender age of 20, the Brazilian forward has already made 164 senior appearances for his current employers thus far, scoring 54 goals and grabbing 11 assists in multiple competitions.

The South American sensation has given a good account of himself in the final third based on his average of 2.7 shots, 1.0 key passes and 0.7 dribbles per game in the Brasileirao. However, he needs to find a way to improve his ball distribution after making 75.3% of his attempted passes in the Brazilian top flight (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at the Brazilian club will run out at the end of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Magpies to sign him on a cut-price deal next year.

Newcastle United Are The Favourities To Sign Leonardo: Is He A Star In The Making?

Leonardo excels at finding a yard of space for himself to get a few strikes in at goal. He has proven himself to be a decent finisher in front of the opponent’s goal.

The Brazilian talent is a technically gifted footballer who can make a few dangerous runs with the ball on the offensive end of the field. He has even got the vision to create some decent plays for others around him in the opponent’s half.

Leonardo would no doubt inject more firepower into Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He would even help the Magpies compete across all fronts in the future. All in all, Leonardo is a star in the making and would be a great signing for the Tyneside club in the long run.

Howe could be the perfect man to oversee his development and unlock the best out of the youngster at St. James’ Park. However, Leonardo would need time to adjust to life in English football if Newcastle manage to snap him up in 2024.
