In a recent report, The Daily Express mentioned that Everton midfielder Amadou Onana is on the radar of Arsenal and Chelsea ahead of the January transfer window. It has been stated that both the Gunners and the Blues are hoping to land the Belgian talent from the Toffees this winter.
Onana’s Good Form At Merseyside This Season
Onana is enjoying a solid campaign at the Merseyside club as he has been responsible for putting in a run of impressive displays for them in the middle of the park. The Belgian sensation has featured in 14 matches for Everton this season, finding the back of the net once and earning one assist in the process across all competitions.
The 22-year-old has anchored the midfield with conviction by averaging 2.5 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, 0.9 clearances, 1.3 shots and 0.7 key passes per game in the Premier League. He has even been careful when distributing the ball after making 85% of his attempted passes in the English first division (stats via whoscored).
His current deal at Goodison Park will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, Everton are under no pressure to let him go in the upcoming winter transfer period.
Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Cash In On Onana?
Onana is a good tackler of the ball and can make a few important interceptions for his team in the middle of the park. He is not shy of clearing the danger when the opposition are on the front foot.
The Belgian midfield ace can even shoot the ball with power from long range and can unlock the opponent’s defence with a killer pass in the final third. He is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also fill in as a central defender or as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.
At 22, Onana will only get better in the coming seasons. Hence, the Toffees should resist the urge to cash in on him when the transfer window commences at the start of January. Dyche would be better off retaining his services for at least until the end of this campaign before reassessing his future next summer.
