According to a report from Liverpool Echo, Liverpool are one of five Premier League clubs interested in signing PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko. The Reds have already started their research on the player ahead of a potential January move.
Liverpool had been linked with Bakayoko in the summer, but they decided against strengthening their attack as they already had Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Luis Diaz, and Darwin Nunez. However, with Al-Ittihad reportedly interested in signing Salah in 2024, Liverpool could move for Bakayoko in January as a contingency plan.
Bakayoko’s Impressive Rise At PSV Eindhoven
Bakayoko was born in Brussels, Belgium, on January 20, 2001. He began his youth career with Anderlecht in 2012. In 2018, he moved to PSV Eindhoven. Bakayoko made his professional debut for PSV Eindhoven on August 25, 2021, in a 2-1 win against Fortuna Sittard. He has since become a regular in the PSV Eindhoven first team, making over 50 appearances in all competitions.
Bakayoko has also represented Belgium at the youth international level. He has been capped by Belgium at the under-17, under-19, and under-21 levels. In the 2022-2023 season, Bakayoko has been in impressive form for PSV Eindhoven. He has scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists in all competitions. His performances have attracted the attention of several top European clubs, including the Merseyside club.
Should Klopp Bring Him To Liverpool?
Whether or not Jurgen Klopp should bring Johan Bakayoko to Liverpool in January depends on a number of factors, including the future of Mohamed Salah at Anfield. On the one hand, Bakayoko is a talented young player with a lot of potential. He is fast, skillful, and creative, and he could add a new dimension to Liverpool’s attack. He would also be a good fit for Klopp’s system, as he is a versatile player who can play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder.
Consequently, Liverpool already have a number of talented wingers, including Salah, Luis Diaz, and Harvey Elliot. They also have Diogo Jota, who can play on the wing or as a striker. So, it is not clear if Bakayoko would get enough playing time at the Merseyside club.
However, Bakayoko is likely to be in high demand, and the Reds may have to pay a significant fee to sign him. This would be a big investment for a player who is still relatively unproven at the highest level. Nonetheless, Klopp should consider making an offer for the youngster in the upcoming transfer window.
