Chelsea will entertain Brighton and Hove Albion at Stamford Bridge this Wednesday night as they try to secure a positive result in the third round of the EFL Cup. The Blues suffered a poor 1-0 loss at the hands of Aston Villa recently which has drained their confidence ahead of this game.
Mauricio Pochettino will opt for a 4-2-3-1 formation and could name a strong first XI for this game. Both Ben Chilwell and Cole Palmer are expected to play from the start of this cup game in the English capital.
4-2-3-1 Chelsea Predicted Lineup To Face Brighton
Defence
Dorde Petrovic will function in between the sticks for the Blues as he looks to keep a clean sheet at home. Thiago Silva could get the nod to operate alongside Levi Colwill at the centre of Chelsea’s backline as they try to keep the Brighton attackers at bay during the 90 minutes.
Axel Disasi might fill in as the right-back while Ben Chilwell hopes to catch the eye as the left-back. Both of them would have to perform their defensive duties well if they are to limit the chances that the opposition create from the wide areas.
Marc Cucurella will provide cover for the defensive positions on the bench.
Midfield
Conor Gallagher and Moises Caicedo will play as the holding midfielders as they focus on making life tough for the visitors at the centre of the park.
The talented trio of Raheem Sterling, Enzo Fernandez and Cole Palmer will function just ahead of them as part of Pochettino’s attack. All three of them need to combine well so that they can create enough chances in the final third.
Ian Maatsen and Armando Broja would be available for selection on the bench as they wait for their chance to make an impact in the latter stages if asked to do so.
Attack
Nicolas Jackson will lead the line for the West London giants on his own up top. He failed to score in his last outing and would be hungry to find the back of the net in this midweek cup clash against Brighton.
