According to a report from Sky Sport, a third bid from Liverpool for midfielder Romeo Lavia has been turned down by Southampton. The most recent offer from the Reds is believed to be around £45 million. However, Southampton is reportedly holding firm and seeking £50 million for the transfer of Lavia.

Lavia’s Impressive Performances In The Premier League Last Season

Lavia left a remarkable impact during his tenure at Southampton, consistently showcasing his prowess in the midfield. Despite the team’s unfortunate relegation from the Premier League, the young Belgian’s talent shone brightly throughout the season. In his 35 appearances for Southampton, Lavia contributed with both a goal and an assist across various competitions.

Operating as a pivotal figure in the heart of the team, the 19-year-old exhibited his capabilities by maintaining an average of 2.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, 0.8 clearances, 0.6 key passes, and 1.0 dribbles per game in the Premier League. Notably, his passing accuracy stood out, with an impressive 86.4% success rate for completed passes in the top tier of English football, as per Whoscored’s statistics.

Should Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp End His Pursuit?

Lavia has consistently displayed a remarkable comprehension of defensive responsibilities. In his primary role as a central midfielder, he has effectively demonstrated his knack for disrupting opponent plays, executing well-timed tackles, and intercepting passes.

His authoritative presence in the midfield disrupts adversaries’ offensive endeavors, rendering him an invaluable asset to any team. While his defensive capabilities stand out, Lavia’s adeptness in vision and precise passing renders him a versatile and well-rounded midfielder.

Furthermore, Lavia’s adaptability further enhances his appeal as a premier prospect. While his primary role is being a central midfielder, he confidently performs across various positions within the midfield.

Nonetheless, the Merseyside club should explore alternative options in the transfer market, considering that meeting the requested fee of £50 million might not be justified. Lavia is still in the development process and wouldn’t offer an immediate solution in the midfield, especially in filling the roles of players like Fabinho or Jordan Henderson.
