In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo claimed that Real Madrid would have to pay €3m for Malaga defender Izan Merino this summer. It is understood that Los Blancos have been told to meet the youngster’s €3m exit clause to sign him this month.

Merino’s Impressive Rise At Malaga

Merino is a product of Malaga’s youth academy after he joined the Spanish club as a teenager. He has caught the eye with his performances in the youth levels of Spanish football.

The Spanish whizkid has put in a series of solid displays for his local club’s youth sides but is still waiting to get his first senior call-up. He has also played for Spain’s Under-17 team on the international stage.

His current contract at Malaga will run out in the summer of 2025. Thus, Real Madrid have got no choice but to meet the Spanish club’s demands if they want to recruit Merino before the end of this transfer window.

Real Madrid Would Have To Pay €3m For Merino: Is He A Prospect For The Future?

Merino is a solid tackler of the ball and can scan the danger quickly to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back. Merino excels at playing in both centre-half positions.

The Spanish prospect is very raw but has still got a lot of room for improvement in his game. Still, there is no denying that Merino is a prospect to watch out for in the future as long as he continues to develop his game with each season.

At 17, the Malaga whizkid has the potential to become a success story at Real Madrid if Carlo Ancelotti is willing to be patient with his progress in the coming years.

At the moment, Merino is nowhere near good enough to break into Los Blancos‘ first XI. However, he is a gem in the making and could prove to be a future star at the Bernabeu. Hence, the Madrid giants would be wise to go all out to snap him up before the end of this summer transfer period.
