In a recent report, Liverpool Echo stated that Everton star Dwight McNeil has suffered an injury ahead of their season opener against Fulham this weekend. It has been revealed that the English winger has suffered ankle ligament damage and is now set to miss the start of the Merseyside club’s campaign.

McNeil’s Impressive Run Of Form At Merseyside Last Season

McNeil had a decent campaign at Everton and managed to help the Toffees avoid relegation from the Premier League. The 23-year-old featured in 39 matches for the Merseysiders last season, scoring seven goals and earning three assists in multiple competitions.

The Rochdale-born talent was a reliable performer in the final third based on his average of 1.3 shots, 1.4 key passes and 1.5 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. He even distributed possession relatively well after making 76.4% of his attempted passes in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).

McNeil is under contract at the Merseyside club until the summer of 2027. With his long-term future secured at Everton, his recent injury blow will be a bitter pill to swallow for the Toffees ahead of the start of the new campaign.

McNeil Suffers Injury Ahead Of The Premier League Season: Big Blow For Everton?

McNeil is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few energetic runs with the ball out on the flanks. He has got the vision to create a few good plays for others around him in the final third and can strike the ball with power from long range.

McNeil is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as a right-sided wide player if told to do so. However, he has to figure out a way to improve his numbers in front of the opponent’s goal.

The English sensation is currently one of the most important members of Everton‘s squad ahead of the new season. Hence, losing him to injury right now would be a big blow for the Toffees as they look to make a bright start to this Premier League campaign.

Sean Dyche would now have no choice but to rely on some of his other stars when the Toffees host Fulham at Goodison Park this weekend.
