In a recent report, Sport claimed that Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet could be allowed to join Tottenham Hotspur on loan. It has been stated that the Catalan club are open to letting the French centre-back leave on loan to join Spurs during this summer transfer window.

Lenglet’s Impressive Loan Spell In North London

Lenglet had a decent loan spell at Tottenham last season as he put in a run of solid displays for them on the defensive third of the pitch. The 28-year-old registered one goal and two assists in 35 appearances for the North London club in the previous campaign across all fronts.

The French sensation was a decent performer when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.5 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per game in the Premier League. He was even tidy when distributing the ball from the back after making 87.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the London club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for Spurs to land him permanently on a cut-price deal this month.

Should Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu Bring Lenglet Back On Loan?

Lenglet is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to secure possession back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t hesitate to put his foot through the ball when the opposition are on the front foot and excels at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.86m, the French defensive ace can use his strong frame to win his fair share of 50-50 duels in the air.

Lenglet already knows the Premier League well by now and won’t take much time to settle into life at Tottenham. He proved himself to be a valuable member of the North London club‘s squad last season.

Thus, Spurs boss Angelos Postecoglu would be wise to try everything in his power to bring Lenglet back on loan before the end of this summer transfer window.

Lenglet has what it takes to help the North London giants challenge across all competitions and might even help them compete for a top-four finish in the Premier League this season.
