In a recent report, Mundo Deportivo mentioned that Barcelona are eyeing a loan move for Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar Jr. It has been stated that the Catalan club are hoping to sign the Brazilian wide player on loan with a view of a permanent move next summer.
Neymar’s Impressive Form In French Football
Neymar enjoyed another impressive season at the French club as he produced a run of impressive displays in the final third. The 31-year-old registered 18 goals and 17 assists in 29 matches for PSG in the previous campaign across all fronts.
The Brazilian sensation was a decent performer in the final third based on his average of 1.9 shots, 2.5 key passes and 1.9 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He was even been excellent when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half after making 82.7% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the French club will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, it won’t be easy for Barca to arrange a permanent move for him in this off-season.
Is Neymar A Good Choice For Barcelona?
Neymar is proficient at finding space for himself to get a few shots in on-target. He has got the vision to engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the final third and remains a decent dribbler with the ball as well.
The Brazil international is primarily a left-winger but can also operate as an attacking midfielder or as a centre-forward up top. However, he can sometimes be a liability off the ball due to his poor work rate.
Neymar will add more bite and steel to Barcelona‘s frontline. He is good enough to earn a regular starting spot at the Nou Camp next season. Thus, it makes sense for Barca boss Xavi to arrange a loan move for him during this summer transfer window.
At 31, Neymar has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Hence, he would be a good choice for the Catalan club to consider in the short term. However, only time will tell whether Neymar can maintain his good form in La Liga if Barcelona manage to get him on board before the start of the new campaign.
