In a recent segment on Sky Sports, journalist Dharmesh Sheth claimed that Arsenal full-back Nuno Tavares is gathering interest from Germany. It has been mentioned that Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg are both trying to sign the Portuguese talent from the Gunners this summer.

Tavares’ Impressive Loan Spell At Marseille

Tavares enjoyed a decent loan spell at Olympique Marseille in the previous campaign when he put in a few impressive displays on the left flank. The 23-year-old made 31 appearances for the French outfit last season, scoring six goals in the process across various competitions.

The Lisboa-born talent managed to catch the eye in both halves based on his average of 1.8 tackles, 0.5 key passes, 0.7 clearances, 2.1 shots, 0.8 key passes and 1.7 dribbles per 90 minutes in Ligue 1. He was even been tidy when distributing the ball from the left flank based on his pass completion rate of 79.1% in the French first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the North London outfit will run out in the summer of 2025. Hence, Mikel Arteta is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him in this off-season.

Should Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta Cut Tavares Loose This Summer?

Tavares is a good tackler of the ball and can make some timely interceptions for his team inside his half. He usually clears the danger when needed and can whip in a few inviting crosses into the opponent’s penalty box. Tavares is primarily a left-back but can also fill in as a left-sided wide player or as a right-back if told to do so by his manager.

The Portuguese sensation can make some driving runs with the ball on the left wing. However, he has struggled to be consistent in the Premier League thus far.

Tavares is currently surplus to requirements at Arsenal as Mikel Arteta has already got Oleksandr Zinchenko and Jurrien Timber in his match-day squad.

At 23, Tavares will only get better in the coming seasons. However, he has to ensure regular first-team starts if he wants to develop as a full-back. Thus, it is only fair to the player if the Gunners cut him loose during this summer transfer window.
