In a recent edition of the Ranks FC Ultras Podcast, transfer insider Dean Jones stated that Arsenal are facing stiff competition for Torino defender Perr Schuurs. It has been claimed that the Gunners will have to rival Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool in the race to sign the Dutch centre-back this month.

Schuurs’ Impressive Form In Serie A Last Season

Schuurs had a solid campaign at the Italian club as he put in a series of impressive displays at the heart of their backline. The Dutch defensive ace made 36 appearances for Torino last season, finding the back of the net once and earning a couple of assists in various competitions.

The 23-year-old was a rock at the back for the Italian club and did well to average 1.7 tackles, 0.9 interceptions and 3.2 clearances per 90 minutes in Serie A. He was even tidy when distributing possession from the back based on his pass success rate of 88.2% in the Italian first division (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Torino will run out in the summer of 2026. Hence, it won’t be easy for Arsenal to land him on the cheap this month.

Arsenal Are Facing Stiff Competition For Schuurs: Is He Worth The Fight?

Schuurs is a solid tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to secure possession back for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when needed and is also proficient at playing his way out from the back.

Standing at 1.91m, Schuurs can use his strong frame to dominate the opposition attackers in the air. Hence, he would be well worth the fight, so Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta should think about stepping up his chase to land the Dutch talent.

Schuurs is good enough to serve as an ideal replacement for Jurrien Timber who is currently sidelined for the Gunners due to an injury. Plus, he has what it takes to help the North London club challenge for some major trophies over the next few years. Thus, Arteta should focus on launching a move to bring Schuurs to the Emirates Stadium before the end of this ongoing summer transfer window.
