In a recent segment on Youtube, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano offered an update on the future of Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni this summer. Romano said,
“Then guys on Aurelien Tchouameni, I am always receiving questions on English clubs, we had reports about Liverpool and Arsenal, at the moment Arsenal are not actively working on that type of player. Arsenal will announce Declan Rice very soon, in the midfield the idea is to understand what is happening with Thomas Partey and then to decide for a new midfielder to join the club. At the moment Thomas Partey is not something advanced with Saudi clubs.
“At the moment, no active contacts with agents of Tchouameni, let me say that the message is very clear from Real Madrid, they want to keep the player, it will not be easy to bring Tchouameni to English football. It looks very complicated.”
Tchouameni’s Impressive Form In La Liga Last Season
Tchouameni played an important role in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad last season when he put in a string of impressive displays at the centre of Real Madrid’s midfield. The 23-year-old featured in 50 matches for Los Blancos in the previous campaign, picking up four assists on all fronts.
The Rouen-born midfield ace was a valuable contributor at the centre of the park based on his average of 1.9 tackles, 1.5 interceptions, 1.5 clearances, 1.2 shots, 0.7 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has even been accurate when distributing possession from midfield after making 93.5% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
What Should Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Do With Regards To Tchouameni?
Tchouameni is a solid tackler of the ball and can make some crucial interceptions for his team at the centre of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and can even engineer a few promising chances for his teammates in the opponent’s half.
The French talent can shoot the ball with power from long range and can make some driving runs with the ball from midfield. At 23, Tchouameni still has a lot of room to grow as a footballer and has still got a bright future ahead of him at Real Madrid.
His current contract with Los Blancos will expire in the summer of 2028. Hence, there is no immediate need for Carlo Ancelotti to cash in on Tchouameni as he remains one of his most valuable assets at the Madrid club.
Real Madrid would be better off keeping hold of the Frenchman for the long run as he could help them taste more success in the coming years.
