In a recent interview with Give Me Sport, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano offered an update on Arsenal and their pursuit of Ajax playmaker Mohammed Kudus. Romano said,
“At the moment there is still no bid or direct conversation with Ajax yet, so we can’t speak about the negotiation yet.
“There is an interest, but I think for Arsenal now, the priority is to get rid of some players. They signed many players, many important players, at the beginning of the summer transfer window.
“So, it’s important now to focus on the outgoings and then we will see.”
Kudus’ Impressive Record At Amsterdam Last Season
Kudus enjoyed a decent campaign at the Dutch club recently as he put in a series of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Accra-born talent registered 18 goals and seven assists in 42 matches last season across all fronts.
The 22-year-old was a reliable performer in the opponent’s half based on his average of 2.3 shots, 1.0 key passes and 3.0 dribbles per game in the Dutch Eredivisie. He was even accurate when distributing possession in the final third, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 87.6% in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).
Is Kudus A Good Signing For Arsenal Boss Mikel Arteta?
Kudus is proficient at finding space for himself to get some strikes in on-target. He has got the vision to engineer a few chances for his teammates and is a good dribbler with the ball as well. The Ghana international is primarily an attacking midfielder but can also function as a centre-forward or as a right-winger if required.
We can expect Kudus to add more quality and depth to Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta‘s frontline. He might even help the Gunners challenge for some major trophies in the coming seasons.
At 22, the future looks quite promising for Kudus as long as he continues to work on improving his game with each year. Hence, he would be a great signing for the North London club if they can find a way to bring him on board this summer. However, only time will tell whether the Ghana talent can make a smooth transition to life in Premier League football.
