According to a report from Mirror, Manchester City is prepared to meet the Bundesliga club’s full valuation for Josko Gvardiol, offering an upfront payment of £77 million along with a package of add-ons. However, Leipzig deems some of the add-ons unrealistic. Manchester City has been given a two-week deadline to finalise an £87 million deal for the RB Leipzig defender.

Gvardiol’s Remarkable Season in the Bundesliga

Gvardiol made a significant impact as a key player in Leipzig’s defensive setup at the Red Bull Arena during the previous season. The Croatian talent displayed his attacking abilities, scoring three goals in 41 matches across various competitions for the German club.

Defensively, Gvardiol maintained a high level of consistency, averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.1 interceptions, and 2.3 clearances per game in the Bundesliga. Furthermore, his ball distribution skills were impressive, with an outstanding pass success rate of 89.3% in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).

Can Guardiola Complete The Deal Before The Deadline?

Gvardiol demonstrates exceptional tackling abilities and a keen sense of danger, enabling him to regain possession for his team on the defensive end swiftly. He displays remarkable decisiveness in making clearances when necessary and excels in initiating play from the backline.

His skill set makes him a potential success story under the expert guidance of Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. Gvardiol’s arrival is likely to add more tenacity and resilience to the Mancunian club’s defence, ultimately assisting them in their pursuit of major silverware in the near future.

Should Pep Guardiola secure an agreement with the Bundesliga club this summer, adding Gvardiol would substantially strengthen City’s defensive options, providing healthy competition for established players like Manuel Akanji, Ruben Dias and John Stones. Furthermore, at only 21 years old, he represents a valuable long-term investment for the club, promising a bright future.
