In a recent report, Aksam stated that Tottenham Hotspur are in pole position to land Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson. It has been stated that Spurs are winning the race to sign the Danish centre-back during this summer transfer period.
Nelson’s Solid Campaign In Turkish Football
Nelsson proved his worth as a solid presence at the heart of Galatasaray’s defence in the previous campaign when he put in a run of impressive displays for them in the Turkish Super Lig. The 24-year-old scored one goal and grabbed one assist in 35 appearances for his current club last season in all competitions.
The Danish talent gave a good account of himself when defending inside his half by averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig. He was even accurate when distributing the ball from the back based on his pass completion rate of 85.7% in the top tier of Turkish football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the Turkish club will run out in the summer of 2026. Thus, it won’t be easy for Spurs to land him on the cheap in this off-season.
Is Nelsson The Right Fit For Tottenham Hotspur Boss Angelos Postecoglu?
Nelsson is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure possession back for his side inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when in danger of being caught out at the back and is an accurate passer of the ball as well.
The Danish sensation is primarily a central defender but can also operate as a defensive midfielder or as a box-to-box midfielder if told to do so.
We can expect Nelsson to add more bite and steel to Tottenham head coach Angelos Postecoglu’s defence and help Spurs challenge across all fronts in the coming seasons. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
At 24, Nelsson’s best years are ahead of him which makes him a great fit for Postecoglu’s needs at the North London club this summer. We can expect the Danish defensive ace to make an immediate impact in the Premier League if he can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
