In a recent report, El Nacional claimed that Real Madrid defender David Alaba is on the radar of Manchester United in this off-season. It has been stated that the Red Devils are showing interest in recruiting the Austrian centre-back from Los Blancos this summer.

Alaba’s Solid Season In La Liga

Alaba had a decent campaign at the Madrid club in the previous campaign when he put in a series of solid displays at the centre of Carlo Ancelotti’s defence. The 31-year-old featured in 39 matches for his current employers last season, finding the back of the net on two occasions and picking up three assists across all fronts.

The Austrian sensation was solid at the back as he averaged 0.7 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 1.6 clearances per game in La Liga. He was even careful when distributing the ball from inside his half after making 89.3% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium is set to expire in the summer of 2026. Thus, Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti is under no pressure to cash in on him before the end of this transfer window.

Can Real Madrid Boss Carlo Ancelotti Afford To Lose Alaba?

Alaba is a good tackler of the ball and can sense the danger quickly to make a few timely interceptions for his team. He usually clears his lines when the opposition are on the front foot and is an accurate passer of the ball as well. However, father time is slowly catching up with his game.

The Austria international mainly functions as a centre-back but can also operate as a left-back if needed. At the moment, Alaba remains one of the first names in Carlo Ancelotti’s teamsheet.

Hence, Real Madrid simply cannot afford to lose him during this summer transfer period. He is still under a long-term contract at the Madrid club and could help compete for a few more trophies over the next couple of years.

At 31, Alaba has still got a few good seasons left in him to play at his best. Hence, Ancelotti should focus on keeping hold of the Austrian sensation beyond this summer.
