According to a report from Mirror, amidst interest from Everton and Nottingham Forest, young winger Anthony Elanga is nearing a potential departure from Manchester United. Despite the ongoing takeover process at Old Trafford showing no immediate signs of a conclusion, manager Erik ten Hag remains committed to revitalising his squad during the summer transfer window.

Elanga’s Disappointing Campaign At Manchester United Last Season

Elanga faced a challenging season at Old Trafford, struggling to meet expectations in the attacking third. Despite his efforts, the 21-year-old winger could only contribute a single assist in 22 appearances for the Red Devils across various competitions this campaign.

Regrettably, Elanga failed to fully capitalize on his opportunities despite possessing undeniable talent in the opponent’s half. His average of 0.6 shots, 0.4 key passes, and 0.3 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Premier League showcased a lack of significant impact. Additionally, his passing accuracy needs improvement, as evidenced by a pass completion rate of just 76% in league matches (according to statistics from whoscored).

Should Ten Hag Sanction His Exit?

It is evident that Elanga’s overall performance fell short of expectations, and he will need to refine his skills and increase his consistency to make a more substantial contribution to the team. Nonetheless, Elanga possesses significant potential and notable abilities that have caught the attention of several clubs. Despite facing challenges in his recent season at Old Trafford, it is important to recognise his talents and the promise he holds for the future.

He possesses exceptional speed, which allows him to outrun defenders and create space for himself in the attacking third. Additionally, Elanga has demonstrated good technical skills, including his dribbling ability. He can easily glide past defenders, showcasing close ball control and quick direction changes. Furthermore, Elanga’s versatility is another asset. While predominantly a winger, he has the ability to operate on either flank, providing flexibility to his team.

However, Erik ten Hag has opted not to include Elanga in his plans for the squad overhaul, indicating that the young winger may need to seek regular playing opportunities elsewhere. Nevertheless, Man United could negotiate a transfer deal that includes a buy-back clause, allowing the possibility for Elanga to return to Old Trafford in the future should he fulfil his full potential.

Should suitable offers arise this summer from clubs such as Everton or Nottingham Forest, including a buy-back clause would provide an avenue for Elanga to rejoin the Red Devils later in his career.
