In a recent report, The Sun mentioned that Everton have joined the race to sign Southampton forward Che Adams this summer. It has been claimed that the Toffees will have to rival Nottingham Forest in the race to land the Scottish striker in this off-season.
Adams’ Tough Season At The St. Mary’s Stadium
Adams endured a difficult campaign with the Saints in the previous campaign as he failed to help them get out of the relegation zone in the Premier League. The 27-year-old found the back of the net on ten occasions and grabbed three assists in 35 matches for Southampton last season in multiple competitions.
The Leicester-born talent caught the eye at times in the final third and did well to average 1.7 shots and 0.9 key passes per 90 minutes in the Premier League. However, he lacked quality when interchanging possession with his teammates in the opponent’s half, as evidenced by his pass success rate of 67.6% in the English top tier (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Southampton will run out at the end of next season which could open the door for Everton to sign him this summer.
What Will Adams Bring To Everton?
Adams can engineer a yard of space for himself to get some shot attempts in at goal. He has got the vision to create a few inviting chances for his teammates on the attacking end of the field.
The Scottish sensation primarily operates as a centre-forward but can also function as a winger on either flank if told to do so. However, he needs to figure out a way to improve his link-up play with others around him up top.
Adams would undeniably bring some much-needed firepower to Everton head coach Sean Dyche’s attack. He is good enough to fight for a regular starting spot at Goodison Park next season.
At 27, the Southampton forward is about to enter his prime which makes him a decent choice for the Toffees to pursue before the start of the new campaign. Adams has got some Premier League experience under his belt and could help the Merseyside club push for a top-half finish in the Premier League over the next few years.
