In a recent report, Calciomercato claimed that Everton are leading the race for Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto. It is understood that the Toffees are facing competition in the form of Fiorentina, Monza and Sassuolo in the race to land the Italian talent this summer.

Gnonto’s Recent Campaign At Leeds United

Gnonto enjoyed a decent campaign at Elland Road but failed to help the Whites avoid getting demoted from the Premier League. The Italian wide player scored four goals and grabbed four assists in 28 matches for the West Yorkshire club last season in various competitions.

The 19-year-old caught the eye at times in the final third by averaging 0.9 shots, 0.9 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per game in Premier League football. He was even accurate when distributing possession in the opponent’s half after making 77% of his attempted passes in the English top flight (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at Leeds will run out in the summer of 2027. Thus, it won’t be easy for the Toffees to land him on the cheap in this off-season.

Should Everton Boss Sean Dyche Bring Gnonto On Board This Summer?

Gnonto can use his quickness to cause a lot of problems for his marker out on the flanks. He is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet and can engineer a few inviting chances for others around him in and around the opponent’s penalty box.

The Italian wing wizard can shoot the ball with venom and precision from long range but needs to find a way to be more consistent in front of the opponent’s goal. He mainly plays as a left-winger but can also fill in as a right-sided wide player or operate down the middle as a striker if asked to do so.

Someone with Gnonto’s skillset will no doubt bring more pace and goals to Everton boss Sean Dyche’s attack. He might even help the Merseyside club challenge for a top-half finish in the upcoming Premier League campaign. At 19, Gnonto has got the potential to become a future star in English football, so the Toffees should try everything they can to bring him on board before the end of this transfer window.
