Barcelona Are Planning To Sell This Talented Defender: Should Xavi Cash In On Him?

In a recent tweet, journalist Rudy Galetti claimed that Barcelona are planning to sell Eric Garcia this summer. It has been revealed that the Catalan club have offered the Spanish centre-back to Juventus in this off-season.

Garcia’s Decent Season In Spanish Football

Garcia enjoyed a solid campaign at the Nou Camp recently as he managed to put in a run of impressive displays for Barca on the defensive third of the pitch. The Spaniard featured in 32 matches for the Catalan outfit in the previous campaign, scoring one goal and grabbing a couple of assists on all fronts.

The 22-year-old was a solid presence when defending inside his half based on his average of 1.0 tackles, 0.8 interceptions and 1.4 clearances per 90 minutes in La Liga. He was even excellent with his ball distribution after making 91% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at Barcelona will run out in the summer of 2026. However, Xavi can definitely benefit from getting Garcia’s name off the club’s wage bill this year.

Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Cash In On Garcia?

Garcia is a tough-tackling defender who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He doesn’t mind putting his foot through the ball when required and excels at playing his way out from the back.

The Spanish talent managed to help Barca win the La Liga title recently. At 22, Garcia has got a bright future ahead of him. He is primarily a central defender but can also function as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so by his manager.

However, as mentioned earlier, Barcelona need to sell off some of their star players if they want to cope with their recent financial struggles.

Hence, it makes sense for Barca boss Xavi to cash in on Garcia as he has already got Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde, Inigo Martinez and Ronald Araujo in his squad.

The Catalan club would be better off parting ways with Garcia this summer. Barcelona should use the funds generated from his potential sale to strengthen other areas of their team during this summer transfer period.
