Barcelona Are Close To Recruiting This La Liga Talent: What Will He Bring To The Nou Camp?

In a recent tweet, Nil Sola mentioned that Barcelona are close to recruiting Girona midfielder Oriol Romeu this summer. It has been claimed that the Catalan club are on the verge of signing the experienced midfield ace in this off-season.

Romeu’s Decent Run Of Form In La Liga

Romeu had a solid campaign at Girona recently after he put in several influential displays for them in the middle of the park. The Ulldecona-born sensation was involved in 36 matches for the Spanish club last season, scoring two goals in the process across all fronts.

The 31-year-old anchored the midfield with conviction for Girona as he averaged  2.1 tackles, 1.1 interceptions and 1.5 clearances per game in La Liga football. He was even careful when distributing possession from midfield based on his pass success rate of 87.3% in league football (stats via whoscored).

His current deal at Girona will expire in 2025. Thus, Barcelona will have to make a convincing offer if they want to get a deal over the line for Romeu soon.

What Will Romeu Bring To Barcelona?

Romeu is a tough-tackling midfielder who can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his side at the centre of the park. He can sense the danger well and can make a few important clearances inside his half. The Spanish talent is a good passer of the ball as well when he is playing well on the pitch but needs to work on improving his productivity in the final third.

At the moment, Romeu is playing at the top of his game. Hence, we can expect him to bring more bite and steel to Barcelona‘s midfield. He might even serve as an ideal replacement for Sergio Busquets in Barca boss Xavi‘s match-day squad.

At 31, Romeu has still got a few good years left in him to play at his best. Hence, he would be a decent, short-term signing for the Catalan club this summer. Romeu already knows La Liga well by now and is well-equipped to make an instant impact at the Nou Camp, so Xavi would be wise to get him on board before the end of this summer transfer window.
