In a recent report, The Telegraph stated that West Ham United are in pole position to land Leicester City winger Harvey Barnes this summer. It has been claimed that the Hammers are leading the race to sign the English wide player in this off-season.
Barnes’ Tough Season In English Football
Barnes has experienced a difficult campaign at the King Power Stadium after he failed to help Leicester get out of the relegation zone in the Premier League. The 25-year-old has found the back of the net on 13 occasions and earned three assists in 40 matches for the Foxes this season in all competitions.
The English wing wizard has been a consistent performer in the final third as he is averaging 2.1 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.8 dribbles per 90 minutes in Premier League football. However, he has lacked quality when distributing the ball in the opponent’s half, based on his pass success rate of 73.5% in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at the East Midlands club is set to run out in the summer of 2025. However, Leicester’s relegation from the Premier League could open the door for West Hamn to land him in this off-season.
Is Barnes A Decent Option For West Ham United Boss David Moyes?
Barnes can use his quickness to make a few driving runs with the ball out on the flanks. He can be a hard man to catch when he is dribbling at full swing and has got the vision to create some inviting chances in the final third.
The Burnley-born talent can chip in by scoring his fair share of goals in the final third but has to find a way to improve his passing accuracy in the opponent’s half. Barnes is primarily a left-sided wide player but can also operate as an attacking midfielder if asked to do so.
Barnes has what it takes to inject more quality into West Ham‘s attack. He is good enough to challenge for a regular starting spot at the London Stadium next season. The English sensation might even help the Hammers compete across all competitions in the future. Therefore, Barnes would be an excellent option for the East London giants to consider ahead of the new campaign.
