In a recent report, Hurriyet stated that Tottenham Hotspur have launched a €22m bid for Galatasaray defender Victor Nelsson. It has been claimed that Spurs are hoping to bring the Danish talent to North London but are unwilling to meet Galatasaray’s price tag during this summer transfer period.

Nelsson’s Decent Run Of Form In Turkish Football

Nelsson had a solid campaign in Turkish football after he put in a series of impressive performances at the centre of Galatasaray’s defence. The 24-year-old scored one goal and picked up one assist in 35 matches for the Turkish club last season across all competitions.

The Denmark international gave a good account of himself on the defensive end of the pitch by averaging 0.8 tackles, 1.0 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per 90 minutes in the Turkish Super Lig. He has even been tidy when distributing the ball from the back as he has made 85.7% of his attempted passes in the Turkish top tier (stats via whoscored).

His current contract at the Turkish club is set to run out in the summer of 2026. Therefore, it is no surprise that Spurs are finding it difficult to lower Galatasaray’s asking price for their prized asset.

Is Nelsson A Decent Choice For Tottenham Hotspur?

Nelsson is a good tackler of the ball and can time his challenges well to secure the ball back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when required and is proficient at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.85m, he can use his strong frame to win a few aerial duels for his side as well.

Nelsson will add more bite and steel to Tottenham boss Angelos Postecoglou’s defence. He might even help Spurs challenge for a top-four place in the Premier League next season.

With all things considered, Nelsson would be a good choice for the North London club to consider this summer. At 24, he has his peak years ahead of him and could turn out to be a success story at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the long run. However, only time will tell whether Nelsson can cope with the high intensity of Premier League football if Spurs manage to get him on board ahead of the new season.
